Mersey Ferry April Update.

9 Apr 2025

The construction of the first new Mersey Ferry to be built in 60 years continues to make significant progress with a number of key milestones achieved since the Keel Laying Ceremony in January.

Units 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 have been successfully erected within APCL Cammell Laird's construction hall, forming the structure of the vessel below the main deck. This is a major step forward in the assembly process, bringing the ferry closer to its final form.

Meanwhile, units 8 and 9 have been fully fabricated in Bay 10 and are awaiting transfer to the main assembly hall for integration. Fabrication of unit 10 is also underway.

APCL Cammell Laird is also making progress to the propulsion elements of the vessel. The two aft main thruster propulsion units have undergone successful testing in Germany and are due to be delivered to the facility in early April.

A number of the vessels’ onboard systems are also being installed including pipework and electrics. The sewage treatment plant, main electrical switchboards, variable speed drives (VSDs), drives, and transformers have all been successfully fitted.

The vessel’s three main engines and generators have also been installed.
